We are “Citrus County Harvest,” but you probably know us by one of the names of our three food security programs:
CITRUS COUNTY BLESSINGS
SUMMER PROGRAM - FEED THE KIDS
Our “Blessings” program is dedicated to silencing the weekend hunger of local children in need. Each week during the school year participants in the program receive a bag of food to take home for the weekend. Students enrolled in the federally funded free or reduced breakfast and lunch program are eligible to participate in the Blessings program.
Working in partnership with the Community Food Bank of Citrus County we created “Feed the Kids,” a program providing food throughout the week to children in need during the summer months, when the school lunch programs are closed.
When Citrus County Harvest, Inc. was founded in 1999, food recovery was our first mission. Our Food Recovery program known as “Harvest” still operates today. This program does not require any additional funds at this time.
Our mission is to provide meals for local students and children in need through donors, partners, and volunteers.
Founded in 1999, Citrus County Harvest, Inc. started a Food Recovery program called Harvest. Each day, local restaurants donate remaining food at the end of the day. Our volunteers transport the perishables immediately to food pantries and meal services serving those in need. Two other programs, Blessings and Feed the Kids, provide low-income children meals during weekends within the school year and during the summer when out of school. Learn More
